Small truck companies, especially those who have actually not been in existence for very long, will frequently find it tough to protect a loan. Banks are often hesitant to provide cash to businesses that do not have a lot of income and possessions. They also desire proof of the viability of a company and therefore need that many operations, especially small ones, be in business for a certain quantity of time before they are prepared to turn over any cash. Because of this, a small company frequently has a couple of money generating alternatives when needs emerge. One choice available, but typically overlooked, is receivable Financing. This is an exceptional means for a medium-size company to obtain cash.

Advice to Companies Whose Cash Flow is Troubling - Select A Factoring Company Instead Of A Traditional Bank Funding

Exactly how to Increase Cash Flow Without Loaning -Cash Money flow is among the main reasons businesses fail.

At one time or another, every company, even effective ones, have actually experienced poor money flow.

Cash flow does not have to be a problem any more. Do not be fooled -- banks are not the only locations you can get funding. Other solutions are available and you do not have to borrow. What is trucking factoring ? One option is called truck factoring. Trucking Factoring is the procedure of offering accounts receivable to a financier rather than waiting to collect the cash from the customer. Oh, the Irony- Trucking factoring has an ironic difference: It is the monetary foundation of many of America's most effective companies. Why is this ironic ? Because accounts receivable factoring is not taught in business colleges, is seldom mentioned in company plans and is relatively unidentified to the majority of most of American company people.

Yet it is a monetary procedure that frees billions of dollars every year, enabling thousands of businesses to grow and prosper. Invoice Factoring has been around for countless years. Accounts Receivable Factoring Businesses are investors who pay cash for the right to receive the future payments on your invoices. An unpaid receivable or invoice has value. It is a financial obligation your customer has agreed pay in the near future. Factoring Principals--Although factoring deals exclusively with business-to-business deals, a large percentage of the retail business uses a factoring principal. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express all utilize a type of factoring in their retail deals. Using the purest meaning of the word, these big customer finance business are really just large Receivable Funding Businesses of consumer paper. Think about it: You purchase at Sears and charge it to your MasterCard. The store makes money almost instantly, although you do not pay until you are ready.

For this service, the charge card company charges Sears a fee (typical common normal fees range from two to four percent of the sale). The Benefits Commercial Factoring can provide numerous benefits to cash-hungry business. Rather than wait 30, 60, 90 days or longer for payment on an item that has actually currently been provided, a company can factor (sell) its receivables for money at a small price cut off the amount of the invoice. Payroll, marketing efforts, and working capital are just a few of the business needs that can be met with instant  money.

Factoring offers the ways for a producer to replenish stock and make even more items to offer: There is no longer a requirement to wait for earlier sales to be paid. FACTORING is not simply a money management tool for producers: Almost any type business can benefit from Receivable Financing. Generally, a business that extends credit will have 10 to 20 percent of its annual sales tied up in invoices at any given time. Think for a moment about how much is tied up in 60 days' worth of invoices: You can not pay the power expense or today s payroll with a client s invoice, but you can offer that invoice for the cash to meet those responsibilities. Using trucking factoring companies is a fast and easy procedure. The factor buys the invoice at a price cut, usually a couple of percentage points less than the stated value of the invoice.

Bradley Truck and Haul has been in business since the mid 1980s. For more than twenty years they've been delivering goods for most major industries in the nation, with business booming as they traversed the country, in all kinds of weather, for all kinds of clients. During the boom times from 2002 to 2007 Bradley Truck & Haul was the mastermind of a top-rated accounts receivable in the trucking industry. Very few customers were behind on their bills, and those customers who were late turned in their overdue payments within an acceptable time frame. Cash was flowing and times were good for all.But a short year later, in the fall of 2008, when the United States economy took a nosedive and businesses both small and large began to feel the pinch on their pocketbooks, those that used to make their demands had suddenly and largely gone silent. Business slowed to a crawl

. And worse yet, Bradley had noticed during the early part of 2008 that though the bulk of their clients were always on time with payments, the few late-bloomers there were, had seemingly started to spread this illness. Spring changed to summer, summer changed to fall, and the CEO of Bradley, Zachary Jordan, was beginning to feel very uncomfortable indeed whenever he looked at their weekly Accounts Receivable reports. There was a growing list of clients who now owed them back debt.He had already been to the administrators to ask what the actual problem was. Were they doing something wrong or different when it came to reaching out to delinquent accounts? By his bookkeepers records, this wasn't the case. He thought perhaps that he was losing clients to a competitor who offered rock-bottom prices with little to no guarantee of quality performance, and that the folks who owed Bradley money had jumped ship and decided to leave him holding the bag.

. They could not afford to pay him their debt, but they could afford a lesser service, maybe. But after doing the cursory research for this and talking to friends in the field, he found that alas, no, customers of Bradley hadn't gone elsewhere. The had just gone!.To Zachary Jordan the situation looked desperate. There were goods to ship, employees to pay, trucks to repair and maintain, and continuous overheads that were very extensive when compared to the funds (or lack of) that were incoming. In the evenings he would discuss his concerns with his wife, Ana, and still find no relief from the worry and frustration.

""Lin, I have a really bad feeling,"" he'd sadly say to his wife.""Well, what do you think it is?"" she would say.Zachary would stare off for a moment and then close eyes. In his mind he could clearly see the fleet of trucks purchased over the many years. He could see them traveling, bringing goods to all of his clients. But then a haze would cover his trucks and his vast fleet would vanish to leave just a few. What on earth was happening to create the death of his business?""I know what it is,"" Zachary said. ""For way too long I've been relying solely on profits received from invoices. For too long I've been allowing our clients to let their accounts become overdue."" All Ana could do was hold his hand and look at him tenderly. 'We know it is a difficult economy at the moment - perhaps it will take a while for people to get on top of their bills'.""Zachary knew his wife meant well, but he knew that he was responsible for too many people to sit idly by, waiting for the sun to peak over the clouds. The following day Zachary walked into his office with a spring in his step, determined to call each and every client who owed money to Bradley Truck & Haul. This wasn't really a very efficient way for a Chief Executive to spend his day, and Zachary knew he should be overseeing all the other sides of the business, such as shipments and deliveries, approaching prospective customers, or working with his sales team. Even though he was doing something to help his company, he knew he had folks on salary to do just this thing. Wasting money, wasting time - even with the best of intentions, Zachary knew that he was in trouble.

After a half day of contacting debtors in vain - they dodged his calls or promised to call back at worst or made minimal interest-only payments at best - he was about to throw in the towel when his secretary Phylliserley knocked at his door.

""Can I have a word with you Zachary?"" she queried, standing in the doorway.

""Of course Phyllis, please come in."" Zachary relaxed back into his chair and looked up at Phylliserley.""Well, I did a little searching this afternoon and tried to figure out a way out of this mess Zachary."" She pulled a small stack of papers from a folder and set them on the desk before him.""Have you ever heard the word factoring?"" she asked.""It does sound vaguely familiar. What is factoring""? he asked.""Well,"" she began, ""Its actually quite simple really.

Basically, factoring invoices means that we would get paid immediately for the loads we haul.""Zachary interrupted ""Immediately?"".""Yes, immediately,"" she continued, ""it is actually very simple. We start by having a professional account manager review our figures and help us set up a company profile. That profile will also include investigating our accounts receivable aging reports, our existing customer credit limits and so on. Additionally, the factoring will help to determine the creditworthiness of our customers independent of their credit history with our business. Its a broad view.""I see, Zachary said. And then what?""Following the completion of their review and once we have been approved for a contract with the factoring company, then we sit down to negotiate conditions and terms. You'll be surprised at the amount of flexibility, all dependent upon the credit histories and business volume.

This company tells us what the cost will be to purchase factoring for our accounts receivable. Once we arrive at a mutual agreement, the funding begins.Zachary leaned forward and reviewed the paperwork closely.""It sounds too good to be true, Phyllis,"" he said.""Yes, I know; that's exactly what I thought at the beginning. But think about it, Zachary: they've guaranteed that experts will do all the paperwork, and that will free us up to do what we should be doing - focusing on our customers in good standing, and that kind of stuff. And they're flexible Zachary,"" she drew a circle around a paragraph on the document before him.""Just how flexible?"" asked Zachary.""It seems that they personalize their factoring charges so that the amount they're prepared to work with is commensurate with our client's debt and our needs. Apparently they can figure this all out in two to four days.

""That sounds pretty good, seeing as we tapped ourselves out with bank loans last year to repair the fleet and money sure is tight. it is imperative that we keep the business rolling as usual, and every day we go unpaid we are getting closer and closer to dealing with some serious issues in both the short term and the long term,"" Zachary said.He took a deep breath and looked at his secretary with something she recognized as hope.""Exactly. This could very well be the answer to resolving the problems we are having with these clients who still owe us money.""Zachary thought about this and agreed with Phylliserley. The customers who were in debt to Bradley Truck & Haul were professional resources of the company, but they were also long-standing friends. They did not want to throw away these relationships because they were having trouble paying their bills now. Zachary knew that the economy had taken a hit and he knew that it would probably be a long time before things started to look up again. If he did not handle these debtors in the right way, that unknown amount of time could spell disaster for all of them. He did not want to lose business but he also did not want to lose any more money.""Well, let me think about this tonight Phyllis, thank you."" Phyllis stood up and left Zachary's office, with the nice feeling of knowing that she may just have solved a very serious problem.Zachary sat behind his desk and looked over the details Phyllis had not mentioned in their meeting. He wondered if there might be other problems freight factoring could help Bradley Truck & Haul with? Running his pencil down the sheet, he noted that the freight factoring company could assist with fuel costs, fuel advances, and fuel discount cards. In fact, Bradley could receive up to fifty-percent cash advances upon load pick-ups. As a man who hated binding contracts with no room to breathe, he was pleased to see that this factoring company would not make him sign a long term contract, would not make him pay any sign up fees and there was no minimum volume required.""I must tell Jamie the good news,"" muttered Zachary to himself.Zachary's son-in-law, Jamie, loved the idea behind Bradley and highly respected his father-in-law for having such great business sense, that two years ago he got his capital together and started his own transportation company. Zachary knew then what struggles Jamie would face but he encouraged him nonetheless. With the faltering economy, if a big fish like Bradley was hurting, a little guy like Jamie was about to catch his death. Perhaps the antidote to these problems was in freight factoring, and they were about to find out.A few months later after going through the entire application process and having the experts review his accounts receivable, credit history and statements, Zachary found himself beginning to dig his way out of the hole his delinquent account holders had created for him. They adopted reasonable factoring purchase contracts and stopped wasting their own precious time trying to collect debts. They used that time to refocus their efforts in being competitive in new territories. Zachary recalled those dismal months when he wasn't aware of freight factoring, and he shuddered at those memories. If Zachary hadn't discovered freight factoring at just the right time, his business may not be operating today.

More Trucking Factoring Companies Story Articles

The Future of a Trucking Company, and Factoring Miguel Daniels let the phone ring on his desk. His morning coffee cooled and his cigarette smoked away in the tray: Miguel is thinking, and pondering the biggest decision he's ever had to make for his trucking business. Daniels Trucking Company was at a turning point of growth and Miguel had to decide if signing with a factoring company was the right way forward.

More than forty years ago Miguel's father had started this business working as an owner-operator and eventually growing Daniels Trucking Company into a fifteen trailer fleet. There had been some hard times when it seemed everything was going to go under and even Miguels mother strapped herself into a cab to make hauls. His father had lived long enough to witness the price of hires drop during the recession and watch the eruption of fuel prices afterwards. But now things were different: the company was in Miguel's hands and he needed to ensure that this business would be left in great shape for his sons.

To move Daniels Trucking Company ahead into the future, he needed a steady cash flow but there was just not enough money to go around. He had employees to pay. They all have families and the usual household bills. Some of the refrigerated trailers were in need of repairs and he felt to stay competitive it was also a good idea to invest in specialized haulers to be ready for the constant requests he was getting for loads of new energy and agriculture equipment. Every time he had to turn down a request, Daniels Trucking looked weak in a very strong market.

His father would have told him to wait and to take his time adding on new technology. Miguel allowed himself a good hard chuckle. He remembered when his father was totally against installing GPS units in the cabs. He would say, Why do you need the voice of some woman to tell you to get off at an exit that has been the same exit that has been there for years? He smiled to himself as he remembered his father poking fun at the other drivers who switched to automatic, even though automatic was quite obviously more efficient (though less manly). He knew his father's days were long gone and new technology was very important for the business, like having Qualcomm to reduce communication time for bills of lading.

Miguel believed a successful man is always thinking of his next step. What would be the next step for Daniels Trucking? And how would he be able to afford it? Funding was all tied up in the mortgage for the office and garage and in the fuel bills. He just finished paying off the small bank loan for installing satellite radio in the trucks for the guys.

He wondered about factoring - was this the answer for him? There was a lot he didnt understand about the process. It sounded like a ninth grade math problem and he wondered how this would fit into the trucking business. Factoring companies buy your invoices and manage your accounts receivable for a certain percentage of the invoiced amount. In return, the factoring company pays the trucking business straight away, providing immediate cash flow for the business to pay staff, purchase fuel, and do any repairs or maintenance. Without this assistance, you're placed in the position of waiting for payment from your customers, and this can often be thirty days, or more. During those thirty days the trucking company cannot pay its employees and bills with invoices.

Now it was time for Miguel to do his homework. He had heard of companies charging for same day money transfers, advancing a percentage of the money owed to your business, while the rest is held in a private account if the bill wasn't paid within sixty or more days. Worse still, if the customer defaulted on payment, the factoring company takes it out of the money supposedly coming to you! Through the grapevine, hed also heard about how some companies suddenly slipped you onto a sliding scale of percentages even if you had already signed a lengthy contract for maybe 3% or 7% so there you are with 10% coming as a cost to you out of the freight bill. His friend Ronnie who had a trucking business in Missouri, was run nearly into the ground by a factoring company that charged him the full freight bill on top of the factoring fees. Well, what was the point of going to a factoring company if there was shady business like that going on?

But it turned out to be quite easy. All the factoring companies he researched were open about their business practices and very friendly on the phone when he called. Their customer service actually knew things about their company and spoke in nice clear English so he could understand what was being explained. He was quite happy to sign an exclusive contract. In fact, he was quite pleased with the idea of a long-term contract because he knew this was a one-off and he would not have to keep going back and forth to different companies. Nobody charged him for credit checks and they offered him a fuel advance on the pick-up of the load. Many companies offered a non-recourse factoring program that suited him just fine. He was more than happy with the figures he was offered in percentage terms on the freight bills. It sounded like a great scheme to him.

For Miguel it was quite a relief to be dealing with the factoring company. They were more personable than those loan managers at the bank. It seemed as though those bank people spoke another language, but these factoring guys knew the trucking business and spoke to him like a client, not like a beggar for a handout. The factoring companies didnt worry over his credit and the debt troubles his father had had in the past of the company. Factoring was based on the credit of his customers and on their reliability which worked well for Miguel because he and his father had built up good strong relationships over decades with their list of clients. So he knew they would understand when the factoring company contacted them for the invoices. His clients wouldnt think poorly of Daniels Trucking and the factoring companies appeared capable of handling the accounts receivable in the same polite manner that his father had used over the years.

Miguel stepped out of his office to let his secretary know to expect the arrival of the factoring contract shortly. There was a new bounce is his step now: he knew instinctively that this new step would raise the future of his company to a new and higher level, and that all the stress from the past could now be put behind him. With the capabilities of this new cash flow, Miguel could actually expand Daniels Trucking Company further across the country and perhaps even go international into Canada. He was a happy man again knowing that he had just made a decision which would guarantee the success of his business and his sons would not be inheriting a financial mess.

So It is not a loan? Clifton Carroll asked as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs. The woman who sat across the desk smiled and shook her head. Not quite, she said.Clifton Carroll owned a small trucking company, and his business had recently fallen on difficult times. Certainly the trucking business can be an extremely profitable venture, and for many years it had been that way for Leo. His company was called Gardner Trucking, named after both of his grandfathers, Dennis and Patrick. Both of these men had been very hardworking and had set a great example for Leo.Disaster had struck half a year ago, when two trucks in Leos fifteen truck fleet went down. One was involved in a very costly accident, and the other simply rolled over, and headed to the trucking graveyard. Clifton depended on his full fleet, and missing two trucks was devastating . Furthermore, buying a whole new truck and fixing the other simply took more cash than Clifton had on hand.A big problem a lot of trucking companies came across was how bills were paid in the industry. You could go a month or more before bills were completely paid off. This system works okay as long as no problems arise, but if they do, then things can get quite sticky.Clifton was an excellent business man, and he certainly hadn't done anything wrong. Things had happened that he could not have predicted, and he had to figure out a way to keep his business from hurting, or even going under. And that's why he found himself across the desk from this woman. Her name was Natalie and she worked for a factoring company. Clifton had come across her company as he sat in his office late one night, pouring over the internet for some solution to his problem long after his employees had gone home. She sat there now, and explained. it is really not a loan at all: we actually buy your accounts receivable. We arent giving you money to be paid back later, were buying something from you, and you can buy it back when you can. This is a win-win situation: we are protected from a total loss, and you're protected from the ridiculous fees and charges you'd have to pay if you borrowed from a bank.Clifton agreed. It sounded good to him, almost too good. The woman laughed. You look like you dont believe me, she said.Oh no, I do: it just sounds too good to be true. I thought I was going to lose my company.Natalie smiled, agreeing. Yes, we get a lot of that. Listen, Id hate to see you lose your company. We know how hard you work, and that you've invested everything in your business. We all need help sometimes. Thats what were here for.""Well, I'm very grateful that you came to see me today.""No problem - I'm just down the road. We normally do it all online but I was happy to come and visit you today, Natalie said with a smile. Let's work out a solution to your problem. And right there and then they created a business profile. Clifton filled the form out, with Natalie available to help him if he needed it. The profile filled Natalie and her company in on Leos company, and would help them determine if he was suitable for factoring. Unfortunately, not all companies are. Some businesses are beyond the help of a Factoring company, while other businesses weren't in enough financial stress to warrant it. As Clifton completed his form, Natalie listened to his story and she felt quite sure he would be the ideal candidate for Factoring. When the form was done Natalie took it and slid it into her briefcase. Standing up, she reached over the desk and shook Leo's hand. He also stood up, and they smiled at each other. They said their goodbyes and Clifton walked her to the door, and then returned to his office. His employees were there, seven who worked in the office, and as he sat behind his desk once more he heard the familiar clack of fingers on keyboards, the electronic whine of the copy machine. He shut his eyes. He had felt so helpless lately, was sure the whole thing was collapsing, and would take him with it. But now, after speaking to Natalie and learning all about Factoring, he felt such a huge relief, like someone had just lifted a huge weight off his shoulders. He sat back in his chair and ran a hand through his graying but still thick black hair. The long nights, where he couldnt sleep. The sudden panic attacks, not matter where he was. Already he could feel all the stress start to drain away. He knew it wasn't over yet and that there was still a way to go, but he could just feel everything start to change for him. He was still here; he knew this was the right path for him, and he felt proud that he had taken the appropriate steps to sort out his problems. His mind wandered back to the very beginning, when he first started his business. He had opened a restaurant at age twenty two when he was fresh out of school. It had been really successful. Offering home cooking in his own hometown, his business had really prospered. But it wasn't what he really wanted to do. He wasn't passionate about the food industry. He thought about it for a long time, then decided it was time to sell his restaurant. He took six months off, and during that time he decided to create Gardner Trucking. So he did it. For the second time in his short life he created a company from the ground up. The business had been an instant success. Then disaster! The two trucks went down and suddenly his success wasn't looking so guaranteed. He was nearing fifty. He didnt think he had it in him, to save this company. But he couldnt give up. Just the thought of shutting down, cutting his losses, laying off his workers - the whole thing made him physically sick some nights. He didnt know how to say quit. And now, because of factoring, he was sure he wouldnt have to. Clifton opened his eyes, sat forward, turned his computer on. He had lots to do. There would be plenty of time later to be thankful, but for now it was time to get back to work.

Traditional Bank Loans

Finance through a bank loan is the normal, or traditional, way of financing your business. While these loans are handy they are not available to every business. As an example, a newly formed business may not have the required assets to qualify for a bank loan, and even if they did, it is usual practise for a bank to use the business itself as collateral. This means that if you default on your loan payment you could lose your entire business. In addition, while you apply for a certain loan amount, that is all the financing you are entitled to. Once the loan is paid off, you can then apply for another loan if the need arises.

Trucking Factoring Companies

Trucking Factoring companies do not offer loans, and you do not go into debt when you get money from a Trucking Factoring company. Rather the financing you receive from a Trucking Factoring company is based on money your business has already earned, but have not yet received. The Trucking Factoring company purchases your accounts receivable, or part of them, for a certain percentage of their value - this is normally about 80-95%. The amount of finance you can receive will be based on the amount you have earned and the accounts receivable you are prepared to sell. Once you have set up Trucking Factoring account it continues as long as you wish it too and the amount of money available to you even can grow as your business grows, giving you the ready cash you need to meet your own obligations.

What Are The Benefits Of A Trucking Factoring Company Versus A Traditional Bank Loan?

While not every business can take advantage of Trucking Factoring account financing (you have to have a business that has account receivables) for those that can use this type of financing there are several distinct benefits.

1. You will not Incur Debt. You do not incur debt as you do with a bank loan because the Trucking Factoring company actually purchases your accounts receivable. This has many benefits including the fact, that this type of financing will not affect either your business credit rating or your personal credit rating. In the event that your business fails, you would not have to be concerned about someone coming after your personal or your business assets in order to pay off a loan. The debt goes onto your credit report with a bank loan, with only one missed payment adversely affecting your business credit: it would also affect your ability to secure insurance, and may reflect on your personal credit rating as well.

2. No Collateral Required. Another great benefit of using the services of a Trucking Factoring company instead of a bank loan is that there is no collateral required for the Trucking Factoring company, because the Trucking Factoring company is buying your accounts receivables. Plus, the state of your credit rating is not an issue; however the Trucking Factoring company will run a credit check on your clients whose accounts receivable are being offered for financing. This makes it easier for fledgling businesses to get the financing they need through a Trucking Factoring company (as long as their accounts receivables are in good order) then from a bank, who may not feel that you have been in business long enough to be worth the risk of issuing you a loan.

3. Receive Your Money Faster. With a Trucking Factoring company you can actually get the money you need faster. Once the Trucking Factoring company assures itself that the customers in your accounts receivable are likely to pay their debt, the money is usually in the account within 24 hours. Borrowing from a bank begins with vast amounts of paperwork, the loan must be underwritten, and this can take ages before you're notified if the loan has been approved.

4.Interest is Paid Up Front. Unlike a bank loan that continues to build interest that you have to pay the entire time you have your business loan with a Trucking Factoring company, you do not have to continue to pay interest as they take it right off the top, deducting it from the total amount of accounts receivable. So you do not have to worry about monthly loan repayments, and you do not have to worry about the amount of interest payable, because all the money in the account is yours to spend.

As you can see from the above, there are some great benefits to financing through a Trucking Factoring company, and not through a traditional bank loan. However, there are also a couple of other benefits that a factory company can offer your business is far beyond the scope of the bank. The most important benefits is that once you sell your accounts receivable to the factory company, you do not have to take time away from running your business to collect the money owed from reluctant to pay customers. The Trucking Factoring company takes over that chore, since it is now their money to collect. Trucking Factoring companies are very good at collecting these debts, saving you the time and effort that you need to devote to your growing company.

In addition, since the Trucking Factoring company evaluates the credit quality of your customers prior to purchasing the accounts receivable you gain valuable information into which customers are likely to pay and which ones are not so likely to pay.A Trucking Factoring company is not the only method of gaining access to finance for the running and growing of your business, however it does offer a financing option well worth considering.
